An interesting afternoon (by Miss Rachie Lea)
A jolly good afternoon to all, and boy has it been an interesting one! Let's see, it all began with Kressy asking Charles if there was any way we could get the lawn mower and "grass picker-upper thing-a-majig" as it is known around here, over the fence on the left side of our field to pick up some of our neighbor’s hay where they had last mowed their property. Low and behold, Charlie found it necessary to leave suddenly for Athens. (about three hours North of here, Addie dearest), to help out a friend. BTW (By The Way), his return flight home to Griffin was blocked by pesky weather moving in from the southeast, so they flew back to Athens and he had to drive home :( At any rate, I was sewing the buttons onto my dress about an hour ago, when next thing I know I'm driving down the road on the mower with Kress behind me in the suburban, people honking their horns and yelling at us, finding myself totally unsure as to where in the world this idea had originated! LOL! We arrived, however, alive and still breathing. :) Why didn't we put a gate in the fence dividing the two houses??? Kress-a-belle drove the sub back here, and proceeded to gather hay via hopping over the fence and then jumping on the mower. I went back out when she called on her cellular asking for gasoline. So, down to the barn it was for me, grabbing a can and funnel and making it to the back of the property just in time for little droplets of water to grace us with their presence... I was just contemplating making a dash for Kress, when she turned the mower back towards the barn. I passed the can over, but then it became clear to me that the rain didn't seem to have any intention of stopping. Kress yelled to go get something to cover the mower. Back to the barn I went, grabbed a tarp, and ran pell-mell back down our field, took a flying scramble over the fence (ripping a nice big gash in my skirt in the process) and began covering the poor mower. Too late, really, but Kress suggested going ahead and filling it up with gasoline. Thence did I do something I shall never do again: I poured gasoline whilst under a heavy canvas! Two minutes and half a million dead brain cells later, I emerged from the torture chamber, rejoicing in the downpour and my returned sanity. Taking stock of the situation, what do I find but Bethy jumping the fence, the little boys standing on the other side watching us in bewilderment, and myself wondering how long it would take for the rain to rinse all this gasoline off of my person. Hmm… We then decided to take refuge under the little barn-like house next to us, only to find ourselves amidst a bunch of wasp nests. "Bad idea," we thought, and immediately relinquished all thought of staying dry, which was a joke anyway as we were already soaked. Looking at each other with a grin, we sloshed our way back, laughing about what people would think if they could only see these three barefoot girls waltzing merrily through the mud, rain pouring off our ripped, hay-covered skirts. Most interesting, I am sure. LOL! Ohhh, but then God painted the most incredible rainbow I ever did see across the sky, the sun was shining from the other direction, and Kress, we really should have taken a pix of it so everyone could see it, for it was just awesome!! Oh well, y'all will have to draw the picture yourselves in your minds. LOL! All in all it was a very eventful, er umm, more along the lines of a very uneventful afternoon, but it was mightily fun!
