Sunday
Sunday morning started off with a large breakfast and then the usual preparations for a meeting. The Maddox, and Hosch families arrived adding a few more people especially and most importantly 'men' so that Daddy and Mr. Carrel would not be alone. We gathered rather late in the barn and started our service. After the worship as Daddy was talking, Mrs. Lummus phone rang, it was the guy's! Daddy handed the service off to Mr. Hosch who lead us in a few words and then Daddy returned and gave us a report! The men had arrived safely and were in Kenner, La.
For lunch we girls prepared a potluck as the women gathered in the office for an impromptu prayer meeting and we girls fed the men and youngun's. Then Miss Abbi was inspired and led a group effort to the special setting and decorating of the table for all of the mothers! It was a lovely idea and the mother's enjoyed immensely. We then gathered in the living room where Miss Ivis and Miss Katie demonstrated various hair arrangements to the great joy of us other young ladies. As we were finishing up the last few girls long tresses, Daddy came in and started a video by Jonathan Lindvall. I grabbed some lotion and we girls set about giving everyone foot rubs. After the video was over we girls rushed upstairs and changed into our lovely dancing dresses. The Morton girls wore their lovely matching dresses that they made for the Father/Daughter retreat, Miss Abbi had bought a beautiful dress on eBay, and Miss Ivy borrowed my blue 1776/1860s gown with a crinoline. We other girls were dressed in various other styles and we gathered outside for a group picture. It was quite lovely as the girls all had their hair and dresses just right! We started our afternoon dance with the good ole Virginia Reel! We had but one newcomer Miss Larisa who caught on very quickly! I then ventured into new waters and reintroduced the 'Duke of Kent'. In the past we had tried this dance but without success. Amazingly the girls progressed due to their eager desire to learn and a surprising large amount of energy even though we were running low in the sleep department. After we had successfully danced through it a few times we took a water break and the girls promenaded around the lawn dancing the 'Two step', and the 'Austrian Liendler' from 'The sound of Music'. That evening we girls enjoyed a wonderful supper prepared lovingly by our dear mothers as we danced outside. After dinner we then procceded to dance again in the barn under the Japanese latterns with the little boy's. We had a wonderful 'little boys' dance which was as you can imagine was full of spirit and laughter and we were just winding down when Rachie came screaming "The guy's are coming home!" The barn then eruptured into utter chaos as we girls scrambled up to the house! The rest of the evening was spent in preperation for our guy's return! Miss Katie headed up the making of a welcome home sign which I have a pix down below. Miss Rachie made 14 beds out on the great room floor for us girls (which were never used poor thing) and then a massive bed covering the office floor for the guy's. By 1am the mothers started drifting off to sleep but we girls determined to greet the guy's at the door sat chatting and a board game was got up in the dining room. Eventually Miss Dorothy had the bright idea of taking a nap andI joined her for a one hour siesta. I then joined Miss Katie, Miss Rachie, Miss Alyssa, and Miss Mariah in the office. Around 3ish I made a pot of coffee and Miss Ivy joined us. We hit upon various topics of converstaion about women in the past particularly Susanan Wesley
